PROBLEM: Palm is not connecting to the computer when synchronizing:

Steps to try:

A) – Turn on HotSync Manager

Before you can initiate a HotSync operation, the HotSync Manager application on your computer must be turned on.

By default, when you installed the Palm Desktop software, the HotSync Manager is set to turn itself on every time you start your computer. However, if you have changed this option or manually turned off HotSync Manager, you will need to turn it back on again.

  1. From the Windows Start Menu, click on Programs.
  2. Click on Palm / Palm Desktop (depending on which version of the software you have installed).
  3. Click on HotSync Manager. This will launch the HotSync Manager application. (which appears on the bottom right of the taskbar-near the time)

  1. After completing these steps, look in the Windows System Tray. You should see the HotSync Manager icon, which looks like a circle with a red arrow and a blue arrow. If you do not see this icon, you may need to re-do these steps once more.

B)– Check the HotSync® Manager to verify that Local USB and Local Serial are both selected (checked off).

To check HotSync Manager, look for the HotSync icon in your Window's System Tray in the lower right corner of your screen. Click on the icon to bring up the menu.

C) – Make sure cable is connected well to the computer and to the palm handheld.

At times the cable might get loose from the computer. Check to make sure it’s firmly attached to the computer (you can try unplugging and plugging it back into the computer) and to the palm (you might have to hold the cable firmly to the palm when synchronizing)

D) Check to see if the hot-sync preferences on your palm are set to local and cradle/cable (in M100-direct serial)

Click on the HotSync icon from your main menu of the palm and make sure the settings are set correctly.

E)-Try restarting your computer.

PROBLEM: When starting to synchronize - a duplicate error message appears on the computer screen.

At times, especially after switching palms, a message might show up on your computer screen when trying to synchronize your palm.

The message will be "Duplicate usernames are not permitted. The user John Doe (your username) already exists on this PC..."

This error occurs-since there are two different palms with the same usernames trying to synchronize to the same computer. The computer doesn't recognize that this is the same palm information-it assumes that these are 2 separate palms using the same username, which is impossible.

Steps to correct this issue:

A) Open up the Palm Desktop Software.

B) On the top menu-click on Tools and then on "Users"

C) WARNING: IF YOU HAVE PERSONAL INFORMATION ON YOUR PALM DESKTOP THAT IS NOT ON YOUR PALM (ex. contacts, calendar) and you do not want to lose it, you can rename the original username to another name (ex. instead of john doe-name it john doe1) and then continue with step D

Click on your username and click on "Delete..." and then "Yes" on the confirmation screen.

D) Click on "OK" to go out of the user List

If the user list is empty-Palm Desktop will not let you close the user box. In order to be able to exit the screen you will have to create a new username.

To create a new username-click on "New.." and insert any name -Important: DO NOT ENTER YOUR PALM'S USERNAME -just enter a letter (a or b for example). Now

you should be able to click on "OK" to exit the user list.

E) Synchronize your palm

When you start synching a box will appear on the screen asking you if you want to create a new account on this PC - Click on "OK" to proceed.

At this point your palm should be able to synchronize successfully.

PROBLEM: Palm in synchronizing to the computer –But not connecting the Yeled Server.

Steps:

A) Make sure thee Yeled Anywhere software was installed after the Palm Desktop Software.  If not, reinstall the Yeled Anywhere software.

B) If after synchronizing  the log shows a message regarding an authentication error ,  the error is most likely appearing since that password wasn't entered correctly into your computer when the Yeled Anywhere program was installed.

To enter the password:

On your computer, Click on -Start->Programs->Yeled Anywhere->Yeled Anywhere Preferences

Server account may be left blank-server password should be: 8534923

C) Make sure your connection to the internet is working properly.

D) Disable any antivirus programs/filters.

E) If the S-Link program is installed on your palm, make sure the password is correct.

1. Click on Home

2. Click on S-Link

3. Click on the top left of the screen where it says SyncServer Link

4. Click on Server Options.

5. The server address should say palm.yeled.org and the password should be 8534923.

PROBLEM: Palm is not responding well to stylus/touch is not accurate:

With use over time, calibration of the touch-sensitive LCD screen can be less accurate, making your taps on the screen less accurate.

To correct the inaccuracy of the LCD screen, you will need to calibrate the digitizer periodically.

  1. Access the Home Page
  2. Depending on your device, launch the Digitizer application:
  3. A target appears on the screen. Tap the center of the target with your stylus. This aligns the screen digitizer. The more accurately you tap the center of the targets, the more accurately your screen is set. If you miss the target(s), the process will repeat until calibration is successful.

Continue tapping these targets until you receive a "Digitizer successfully calibrated" or "Your Digitizer is now calibrated for pen input" message.

  1. Tap Done.

If you can access the calibrator, but it loops through the target sequence (repeatedly asking you to tap the targets)-try to soft reset your  palm

PROBLEM: Screen is fading/too light, or too dark:

PROBLEM: Signature disappears as it is being entered.

If while trying to get a signature on the palm, the signature disappears as it is entered, the writing area on the palm should be turned off. When the writing area is on, the palm allows you to write using graffiti anywhere on the palm screen. Therefore, the palm will not recognize the signature when it is entered on the palm.

To turn off the writing area, do the following:

  1. Click on the Home button

  1. Click on Prefs

  1. Click on Writing Area

  1. Select Off.

PROBLEM: After signing a session and going back to the view the signature, the box is black.

When the color of the palm is changed, the signature gets corrupted and cannot be read. The color scheme of the palm must be changed back to original and then the session must be resigned.

  1. Click on the Home button

  1. Click on Prefs

  1. Click on Color Theme

  1. Click on Original

PROBLEM: Students are not showing up on palm

If a student is not showing up on your palm, it is usually a placement issue ie. the student was not approved for services or the child was removed from your caseload.

After a child was removed from your caseload, it will remain on your palm under the “old students” menu for 30 days.

If the student was not yet approved, it will only show up on your palm once s/he is approved. If you have any questions regarding your caseload, you can speak to the placement department.
